The Giant Blackout Set at Finchley Studios is a large, fully controlled studio environment designed for productions that require complete control over lighting and atmosphere.  Unlike a conventional studio, the blackout environment allows you to eliminate unwanted ambient light and create your own lighting conditions from scratch. This makes it particularly well suited to film, television, commercials, music videos, fashion shoots, automotive productions, branded content and photography. The space can be transformed from a completely dark environment into almost any visual style using professional lighting, set design and production equipment.

Yes. The Giant Blackout Set is suitable for filming cars and large vehicles, making it an excellent option for automotive commercials, promotional films, product launches and photography. The space is on ground level with a broad shutter gate entrance, making it practical to bring vehicles into the studio and offload them.

The Giant Blackout Set is particularly useful when you want to create a specific colour or atmosphere through lighting, rather than being restricted to a fixed backdrop. Depending on the look you're after, we also have other environments including the Giant White Infinity Cove, Giant Green Screen and Brick Studio. Other colour requirements may also be possible depending on the production.

Yes. The Giant Blackout Set provides space for set builds, props, furniture and production equipment, making it suitable for productions requiring a bespoke environment. The blackout environment is particularly useful when you want to construct part of a set and then use controlled lighting to create the desired atmosphere around it.

It can accommodate a wide variety of production design, props and set dressing, from relatively simple arrangements through to larger commercial and film sets. For substantial builds, please provide your dimensions, materials and production requirements before booking so we can help you plan the space.

Hiring the Giant Blackout Set at Finchley Studios gives you more than just the filming space. You have access to facilities designed to support your production and make the studio comfortable for both crew and talent. These include private use of the green room, kitchen and production area, as well as Wi-Fi, printing facilities, an HMU (hair and make-up) area and an accessible bathroom. The studio also has air conditioning and heating.

We provide a coffee machine, a selection of teas and free mineral water for your crew and talent. If you're running a larger production, these facilities allow your team to keep much of the preparation, production and filming process in one location.

Yes. You are welcome to bring your own cameras, lighting and production equipment to the Giant Blackout Set. In Finchley Studios' terminology, this would typically be a Silver Package or dry hire booking. These bookings generally include the soundproof studio space and a complimentary lighting setup, although you can bring and operate your own lighting if you prefer.

A Finchley Studios technician will be present throughout the booking for practical assistance, security and insurance purposes. Your own production team remains responsible for operating its equipment. If you have specialist equipment or a complex lighting rig, please share your requirements before booking so we can help you plan the setup.

Yes. Finchley Studios can provide a professional technical production team for Giant Blackout Set shoots. With Gold and Platinum Package bookings, we provide 2–3 senior technicians who can handle cameras, sound, lighting and setup, as well as remote calls and livestreams where required.

Teleprompter (autocue) support is also available upon request, making the space suitable for scripted productions, commercials, corporate films and presentations. For Silver Package or dry hire bookings, one Finchley Studios technician will be present throughout for practical assistance, security and insurance purposes rather than operating the production.

Yes. The Giant Blackout Set is soundproof, making it suitable for productions where high-quality recorded audio is as important as the visual environment. This makes it particularly useful for film and television, commercials, interviews, scripted productions, music videos and branded content where dialogue or other production audio needs to be captured in a controlled environment. Combined with professional audio equipment and technical support available through our production packages, the soundproof environment allows you to record both high-quality visuals and professional audio in the same space.

Yes. The Giant Blackout Set is an excellent photography studio as well as a filming environment.The ability to eliminate ambient light gives photographers exceptional control over the final image. This makes the space particularly effective for fashion photography, automotive photography, advertising campaigns, product photography, portraits and creative editorial work. You can create everything from dramatic low-key portraits to highly controlled commercial lighting without relying on natural light.

Yes. Our antique piano is beautiful and often used by clients for aesthetic purposes. Please contact us if you'd like to include it in your booking. 

Yes. You can bring props, furniture and other set pieces into the Giant Blackout Set and use them as part of your production design. The controlled environment makes it particularly easy to incorporate furniture and props into a specific visual concept, whether you're creating a commercial, music video, fashion shoot, film scene or branded production. If you're bringing large or unusual items, please tell us before booking, particularly if you need to build a substantial set or bring a vehicle into the studio.

Yes. The Giant Blackout Set can be used for interviews, dialogue and other spoken-word productions, particularly when you want a more dramatic or cinematic visual style. Its soundproof environment provides a controlled setting for recording dialogue, while the blackout conditions give you complete creative control over how the interview is lit. This makes it an interesting alternative to a conventional interview studio for corporate films, thought-leadership content, documentaries, promotional videos and cinematic interviews.

Yes. The Giant Blackout Set can accommodate livestreams and live video productions, including interviews, presentations, branded broadcasts and live events. With Gold and Platinum Package bookings, our senior technicians can handle cameras, sound, lighting, studio setup and livestream requirements as needed. If you're planning a livestream, please tell us when you book. We'll need to understand your platform, number of participants, camera requirements and production format so we can prepare the appropriate setup.

Yes. Teleprompter (autocue) support is available upon request, making the Giant Blackout Set suitable for scripted productions where presenters or performers need to deliver prepared material accurately. An autocue can be particularly useful for commercials, corporate films, presentations, training content, promotional videos and scripted performances. Teleprompter support is available with Platinum Package bookings. Please mention that you require an autocue when booking so we can prepare the appropriate setup.
