A producer's technical checklist should confirm that the whole recording workflow is ready. Equipment ownership matters less than knowing who operates each stage and how the resulting files will be checked.

Audit the recording chain
List the microphone inputs, camera views, monitoring paths, power supplies and storage destinations. Confirm that the selected equipment supports the planned recording length and that the operator knows which sources must be retained.
Where your team supplies equipment, check cables, adapters, compatible media and available space beforehand. Test the actual configuration rather than relying on an equipment list assembled from memory.
Check the session assets
Keep the episode rundown, guest details, approved branding and any playback material in one organised handover. Clarify who supplies permissions and approvals for material intended for publication.
Brief participants about microphone position, quiet clothing and how to mark a correction. For scripted sections, check that the final copy is available in the format the operator needs.
Confirm recording and contingency arrangements
- Record and play back a short test from the required sources.
- Check ordinary speech and louder moments without overloading the inputs.
- Confirm how the operator monitors the session throughout.
- Establish what backup capture is available and who checks it.
- Agree a response if a recording or remote connection fails.
Close the loop after capture
Account for the agreed files, identify any missing section and keep notes for the editor. Confirm the delivery contact and retention window before the team disperses. Assign someone to download, inspect and back up the media.

How Finchley Studios handles this
Send Finchley your technical brief, participant count and delivery specification before the booking. An engineer-supported package lets the studio manage the agreed recording setup, while your producer retains the episode plan and approvals. Ask explicitly about backup capture and any equipment your team wants to bring.
