A useful podcast recording kit starts with clear notes and the practical items that help you stay comfortable. What you need to bring changes according to whether you are a guest, host or the person supplying the equipment.

Prepare the content
Bring a concise outline, key facts and correct names or pronunciations. Hosts should also have the introduction, sponsor wording and closing call to action available. Keep essential points easy to find instead of relying on a long script for an informal interview.
Choose quiet ways to consult notes. A silenced tablet can be helpful, while paper should be placed so it does not need constant handling near the microphone. Check that notifications and alarms will not interrupt recording.
Pack for the visit
- Your confirmed venue address and arrival contact.
- Water and any personal items you need during a longer session.
- Clothing that is comfortable when seated and does not rustle against a microphone.
- Approved logos, scripts or presentation material requested by the production team.
- A suitable drive only if a physical file handover has been agreed.
For video, ask about the set and wardrobe requirements in advance, especially if green screen is involved. Leave extra time for guests who need assistance or a particular seating arrangement.
Check who provides the technical kit
An engineer-supported studio booking may supply the recording equipment. A room-only or location recording may require your own microphones, headphones, adapters, power and storage.
Avoid bringing an entire production rig unnecessarily. Confirm the package first, and give the operator notice of any equipment you want to introduce into the signal path.

How Finchley Studios handles this
Ask Finchley what your chosen recording package provides before you pack. Bring your episode outline and send any branding or scripted material ahead of time. If you plan to use your own equipment or collect files on a drive, agree that with the team so the session can be prepared around it.
