A 45-minute episode usually needs more than 45 minutes in the studio. The booking has to accommodate people, equipment and the agreed wrap procedure, as well as the conversation itself.

Build the schedule from tasks
Start with expected recording time. Add arrival and briefing, microphone and camera checks, any branding setup, breaks, pickups and pack-down. Clarify whether file transfer takes place within the booking or happens later.
Allow more preparation for a larger panel, unfamiliar equipment, remote contributors or a set change. A simple interview in a prepared room has different needs from a production involving several guests and scripted inserts.
Leave useful contingency time
Guests may need a moment to settle or repeat an answer. A rigid schedule can force you to choose between a valuable final question and a clean ending.
Avoid assuming early arrival gives you access to the set. Another booking may be using the room, so additional setup time should be arranged in advance. Likewise, a late start may not move the scheduled finish.
Use an example as a planning tool
For an illustrative one-hour recording, you might allow 30 minutes for briefing and checks, 60 minutes for the conversation, and 30 minutes for pickups and wrap. That makes two hours before any extra guest changes or specialist setup. It is a planning example, not a studio minimum or a guaranteed allocation.
For several episodes, plan each changeover and break explicitly. Confirm the available booking duration and overtime terms before sending call times to guests.

How Finchley Studios handles this
Tell Finchley the intended episode length, guest count and extra material you want to capture. We can discuss an appropriate session length and confirm the minimum for your chosen space. If you need props or branding installed, ask about access before booking rather than assuming the room will be free beforehand.
